TDC Susan Nelson
Susan Nelson, Principal, has been with TDC since 1987. In her many years with the firm, she has led a wide range of projects that include mergers, strategic business plans, organizational and financial assessments, financial restructuring and facilities planning.

Susan's practice focuses on the complex challenge of aligning an organization's strategy, implementation plan and financial sustainability. Her deep financial analysis skills and hands-on operational experience has given her a special expertise in how to scale an organization to an appropriate size while creating a sustainable financial capitalization plan.

She has worked with clients of all sizes across the spectrum in such areas as arts and culture, community development, education, and social services.

Susan has authored two Boston Foundation studies, Funding for Cultural Organizations in Boston and Nine Other Metropolitan Areas (2003) and Vital Signs: Metro Boston's Arts and Cultural Nonprofits 1999 and 2004 (2007). More recently, she co-authored a study on the impact of debt in nonprofit organizations in three sectors (arts, social services and private schools).

Prior to joining TDC, Susan held a variety of financial management positions, including three years with the Boston Housing Authority and three years as the Comptroller of the Opera Company of Boston. She holds a BS from the College of Saint Rose.
